27.1.06 Old friends, new friends

I had a good friend in Hong Kong named John Paul Pietrus, a very talented young photographer who worked with me on a bunch of fashion shoots. I think I gave him some of his first pro gigs (I was a magazine editor at the time) - shooting one of the Fendi sisters in the Mandarin Oriental, and doing a wild Vivienne Westwood shoot on the neon-bathed night streets of Wan Chai.

We lost touch, as one does. He emailed me the other day, having stumbled upon my site. Turns out he also found his way to London at some point over the intervening years, and has become a very reknowned fashion photographer. Check out his work here and here. John Paul's one of the nicest people I ever met, and it's made me extraordinarily happy to see him getting the recognition his talent deserves. Another of the Tribe makes good.

It's been a good week for friends old and new. Allow me to introduce the Croatian artist Alem Curin. We're working on a little project together. Here's a rather obvious hint:

As usual, clicky for bigger image. Alem is a genius, and not nearly as famous as he should be. I cannot wait to see what he does with my rather Absurdist script.

People like John Paul and Alem make me just happy to be alive and in the same universe as them.

I would appreciate to have tehe chance to interview you about your work with artists of former Yugoslavia. As you can see here, I am preparing the first worldwide anthology of the 9th Art that is made in former Yugoslavia, and, separately, I would like to know out your project with Alem Ćurin.
